The Best Time for Scuba Diving
Compared to other areas, you’re very likely to experience warm water when you go diving in Lombok.
If you’re a fan of water temperatures up to 86°F, we guarantee you’ll have a fantastic time.
On average, water temperatures may dip just below 79°F, which is still incredibly comfortable for most divers.
Similar to other diving locations, there is a specific season seen as the best time to visit, especially for scuba divers.
In this area, you’re bound to have the best experiences from March to November, as this is when the water is the warmest and filled with beautiful marine life.
You can guarantee there are plenty of places in Indonesia that have fantastic dive spots year-round.
There is an exceptional amount of marine life surrounding Indonesia that will surely make your diving experience one-of-a-kind.
With that said, some marine species are more prevalent during certain times of the year.

During the earlier months of the year, from January to April, you may see sightings of various species of fish.

Lombok Diving Conditions and Difficulty
The visibility around Lombok is by far one of its most notable advantages, as you can see up to 120 feet when submerged.
The clarity and pristine quality of the water are what make this area one of our favorite locations for scouting different marine species with ease.
Ideally, you’re going to want to avoid visiting Lombok between December and January, as this is when they experience the most rain, which can decrease visibility.
When it comes to experience, there’s plenty for everyone to appreciate when you visit Lombok.
It’s not home to choppy waters with currents, which makes it a fantastic place for beginner and intermediate divers alike.
Even experienced divers will love setting their sights on the unique marine life in the area.
With that said, you will want to make sure you have the necessary certifications, as they are required for scuba diving in the area.
You can either obtain your certifications at home or opt to take courses in Lombok since there are numerous companies for you to choose from.
Recommended Diving Training
There isn’t much training recommended for people visiting Lombok, as the waters are relatively simple to navigate through.
Do note that it is ideal for you at least to have an Open Water certification so that you know the basics of scuba diving.
You might also have peace of mind by opting for a Fish Identification course, as this can keep you aware of the marine life in your area.
The Best Diving Sites in Lombok
There is an extensive collection of phenomenal diving sites in Lombok that you won’t soon forget.
1. The Magnet
Easily the most popular diving destination, The Magnet is known for its 80m depth filled with giant species of fish.
You’ll be able to experience barracuda, tuna, rainbow runner, and mackerel in this location, as well as white and blacktip sharks.
Many divers have also noted fantastic arrays of hammerhead sharks and grey reef sharks.
Compared to the other popular dive sites, this location is recommended for advanced divers only.
2. Meno Wall
Located in the West of Gili Meno, the Meno Wall reaches a depth of 18m.
Divers will love all of the small species of fish that they can set their sights on in this area, including soldierfish, crabs, wart slugs, lionfish, and nudibranchs.
The locals also refer to Meno Wall as “Turtle Heaven” because you’re quite likely to see green and hawksbill turtles.
3. Manta Point
If you visit Lombok during the rainy season, you’ll still be able to get in the water to experience some variations of marine life.
Just South of Gili Trawangan, you’ll find Manta Point, which is the most likely place you’ll be able to see manta rays.
Depending on how lucky you are, you may even be able to experience turtles and reef sharks.
4. The Cathedral
Another location, similar to The Magnet, that is great for advanced divers, is The Cathedral.
The depths in this area can reach 50m, and you’re bound to see an assortment of barracudas, mackerels, sharks, and tuna.
Most divers will experience eagle rays, but more notably, there is also a gigantic cave to explore at approximately 40m.
5. Malang Reef
If you’re looking for a different type of diving experience, we recommend visiting Malang Reef, as it is home to underwater canyons.
The brilliant landscape that you will experience, with a stunning plateau at 10m, is something you won’t soon forget.
It’s one of the best locations for encountering spiny lobsters, scorpionfish, stingrays, mantas, white tip sharks, and lionfish.
